Job description

Vantage is growing, and we need a Sr People Partner to help our leaders become great ones. Your core client group is engineering managers, along with new managers and team leads across the business. Your job is to build a culture where coaching drives performance and where people feel it in their day-to-day experience at Vantage. You model the leadership you coach. You give managers candid advice, earn trust through sound judgment and follow-through, and hold leaders accountable for how they lead.

This is a hands-on business partner role. You’ll coach managers through difficult conversations, run performance cycles that focus on growth as much as evaluation and handle employee relations from first concern to resolution. You will lead projects that shape how we define and measure great work and use onboarding, exit interviews and people data to keep improving the employee experience. You’ll also advise on employment compliance across Canada, the US and the UK, support compensation planning, and help build fair, consistently applied policies.

Key Responsibilities

Business Partnering & Manager Coaching

  • Be the primary people partner for employees, people leaders and team leads across the business.

  • Equip managers to drive high performance through clear goals, ongoing feedback and real accountability, so great work gets recognized and issues get fixed early.

  • Build manager habits that drive a culture of performance: setting clear goals, coaching in the moment, recognizing top performers, and acting quickly when performance slips.

  • Advise on and manage employee relations matters, including performance improvement plans, written warnings, and terminations.

  • Help design and launch a leadership training program for new and developing managers.

Performance Management

  • Run the 90-day and Annual Review processes for your client groups, from manager preparation through to follow-up.

  • Help define our competencies and what great work looks like at Vantage, and build them into how we measure performance.

  • Build career planning frameworks that give employees a clear view of how they can grow here.

  • Own ER cases from first concern to resolution, including investigations into harassment and misconduct complaints.

  • Manage accommodations and leaves across jurisdictions with our Payroll and Benefits Specialist.

  • Escalate and partner with the Head of People on higher-risk matters.

Programs, Policy & Compliance

  • Refine People reporting so leaders have the data they need to make decisions.

  • Create company content that explains our people programs, policies, and changes.

  • Own the multi-jurisdiction handbook and support policy rollouts and manager training.

  • Prepare offer, promotion and merit recommendations using market data and our compensation philosophy.

  • Advise on employment standards across Ontario, BC, Alberta, the US (including California) and the UK through our EOR.

Employee Experience

  • Own and improve onboarding and exit interviews to improve the employee experience and lifecycle.

  • Support company events and initiatives, including in-person days, recruiting events, company retreats, and employee resource groups.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in an HR Business Partner role.

  • Experience at a scaling SaaS or technology company including experience partnering with engineering teams.

  • Hands-on ER experience, including investigations, PIPs and terminations.

  • Strong knowledge of performance management, competency frameworks.

  • Sound judgment, discretion with confidential information, and the confidence to give leaders direct coaching and feedback.

  • Ontario employment law knowledge; US/California exposure is an asset.

  • Experience with comp planning or pay equity.

  • Nice to have: PEO/EOR experience and CHRP/CHRL are assets.
