Leadership Opportunity | Fully Remote Across Canada or Hybrid in Vancouver

You’ve built strong technical tax expertise. Now you’re looking for a role where you can have more influence, develop people, work directly with clients and Partners, and continue building your career without sacrificing flexibility.

Smythe LLP is looking for an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join our growing Canadian Tax Group. Whether you’re based in BC or elsewhere in Canada, this role can be fully remote, with hybrid and in-office options available from our Vancouver, North Vancouver, and Langley offices.

You’ll take a leadership role within the practice, managing complex tax engagements, advising clients, mentoring team members, and working alongside Partners to identify opportunities and deliver practical solutions.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Tax Manager, you will lead tax planning and compliance engagements for a diverse client base while providing practical, thoughtful advice on complex tax matters. You will work closely with Partners and clients, support the development of our people, and help identify opportunities to expand client relationships.

In this leadership role, you will:

  • Lead tax planning and compliance engagements for corporations, partnerships, trusts, and individuals
  • Provide tax advisory and planning support, including preparing client correspondence and technical memoranda
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and additional client service needs
  • Research and advise on technical tax matters while staying current on legislation and case law
  • Build strong client relationships and deliver practical, high-quality tax advice
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to team members
  • Collaborate with Partners and colleagues across the firm on complex client matters

What You Bring

  • Completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program
  • Strong Canadian tax knowledge with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex issues
  • Excellent communication, client relationship, and leadership skills
  • A collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to work effectively with individuals at varying levels of technical expertise
  • Experience mentoring and developing team members

Bonus points if you bring experience in cross-border tax compliance, foreign reporting requirements including T106, T1134, and T1135 filings, foreign accrual property income and surplus pools, or an understanding of the Canada–U.S. Tax Treaty.
