Job description

At Leap Tools, we are building the world's most advanced solutions for the interior décor industry. With customers in 80+ countries, our clientele includes Fortune 500 companies such as Home Depot, local retailers such as Alexanian's, and everything in between. We have been recognized as one of the fastest-growing tech companies by Deloitte for multiple years in a row, and we are looking for ambitious challenge-seekers to fuel our momentum and help us create an iconic global tech company.

About the role

This is a new position. We are adding a Staff-level engineer to provide technical leadership across multiple projects and engineering teams within our Dealer Solutions organization.

Our Dealer Solutions products help businesses in the flooring industry manage their operations and serve their customers. These are business-critical applications with complex workflows, demanding reliability requirements, and significant opportunities for technical innovation.

As a Staff Software Developer, you will help shape the architecture and technical direction of these products, tackle complex engineering challenges, and guide teams in building scalable, maintainable solutions. You will work across multiple technologies and systems, balancing long-term architectural decisions with the practical needs of delivering value to customers.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a people management position. You will work closely with engineering managers, product leaders, and senior technical leadership to influence technical strategy, establish engineering standards, and drive high-impact initiatives across teams.

About you

You have a passion for solving complex problems and working on products used by millions of people. You enjoy setting the bar high and clearing it. You can lead by example, but you know when to step aside and let the team run with the ball. Your technical knowledge is matched only by your passion to design, create, and succeed with others.

You want to build on your experience. You are interested in making a big impact, but perhaps you are currently limited in your growth potential. Join us and you will work directly with our talented engineering team to push our product to new heights.

We hire humans, not job descriptions. You should apply even if this role doesn't align with your experience. We’re happy to create unique roles and compensation for the right talent.

About our stack

Our engineering teams work with a range of technologies, including:

  • Backend: Python, Django, C++, PostgreSQL
  • Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript
  • Infrastructure: AWS, Azure, Kubernetes
  • Platforms: Web and Windows desktop applications

We value strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to work effectively across different technologies. Deep expertise in every part of our stack is not required.

What you'll do

  • Provide technical leadership across multiple engineering teams, shaping architecture, technical direction, and engineering practices.
  • Design and evolve complex software systems, balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and business requirements.
  • Lead significant cross-team technical initiatives from initial design through successful delivery, remaining hands-on where your expertise adds the most value.
  • Anticipate future technical needs, identify foundational investments, and break complex initiatives into manageable deliverables.
  • Lead architecture and design discussions across backend services, web applications, desktop software, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Evaluate competing technical approaches, considering quality, risk, delivery timelines, and team expertise.
  • Establish and champion engineering best practices, including code quality, automated testing, observability, and technical documentation.
  • Mentor and develop engineers across teams, helping them strengthen their technical skills, architectural thinking, and ability to make independent decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with engineering managers, product leaders, and senior technical leadership to align technical decisions with business priorities.
  • Collaborate across teams to resolve complex technical challenges, manage dependencies, and improve engineering effectiveness.
  • Help shape the long-term technical vision and culture of the engineering organization.
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and developing engineering talent.

We’re looking for someone with

  • 8+ years of software development experience building and operating scalable, reliable systems that businesses depend on in production.
  • A track record of leading a multi-team migration or re-platforming of a system with live users and live data, end-to-end.
  • Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, networking, databases.
  • Strong data modelling and relational database skills, including designing schemas and evolving data-intensive applications.
  • Proven ability to design distributed services with performance, observability, and fault tolerance in mind.
  • Strong architectural instincts and the ability to make high-leverage technical decisions that hold across multiple teams and codebases.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and mentor senior engineers, guide teams through ambiguity, and raise engineering practices across the board.
  • Exceptional ownership mindset. You drive initiatives forward, raise the bar, and deliver lasting impact.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including with people who are not engineers.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-autonomy, product-driven environment.

Preferred, not required:

  • Experience with ERP, accounting, or other business management software, or with e-commerce and catalogue management.
  • Experience building and maintaining Windows desktop applications, particularly in C++ or comparable native desktop technologies.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure, including infrastructure supporting production applications. Familiarity with Azure Virtual Desktop is a plus.
  • Experience with Python and Django on the backend, or a comparable framework.
  • Experience working across multiple technology stacks and contributing to the architecture of complex, established software products.
  • Familiarity with our stack is strongly preferred, but deep expertise in analogous systems and a willingness to learn are welcome.

About our culture

  • We're a remote-first company that encourages our employees to work from where they're most productive.
  • We work in tight-knit teams to cultivate an ownership mentality.
  • We cherish curiosity and an obsession for details because we know these details are invaluable over the long run.
  • We're hyper-focused on our achievements and our ability to execute our promises. We act with urgency.
  • Work anywhere in the world for up to 3 months!
  • We value families, by offering a parental leave program
  • We offer a work-from-home stipend
  • Your birthday (and our company's birthday) is a day off!

About our hiring process

  • You upload your resume and complete a brief questionnaire.
  • Three rounds of technical assessment.
  • Culture fit assessment.
  • Final interview with leadership.
  • Offer
