Job description

Opportunity

Are you an experienced Accident Benefits professional who enjoys solving complex claims issues, sharing your expertise, and helping others make confident, well-supported decisions?

Millennium Insurance is looking for a Team Lead to join our Care-First Claims team, providing advanced technical guidance, quality oversight, and support across the claims function.

This is a senior technical leadership role rather than a formal people-management position. You will support complex claims, strengthen claims quality, provide technical guidance and coaching, and work closely with the Care-First Manager to promote consistent and effective claims handling.

What you will be doing

  • Act as a primary technical resource for Case Coordinators and Case Managers, providing guidance on coverage, benefits, treatment, calculations, reserves, and complex claim matters.
  • Provide advanced technical guidance on complex, disputed, catastrophic, high-exposure, fatality, or unusual claims.
  • Review complex claim information and make well-supported coverage and benefit decisions within established authority.
  • Conduct claim file audits and quality reviews to assess coverage decisions, benefit calculations, treatment approvals, reserves, documentation, and overall claim handling.
  • Identify technical errors, recurring trends, knowledge gaps, and opportunities to improve claims practices, processes, and training.
  • Review, establish, and adjust reserves across Care-First claims and identify significant or emerging financial exposures.
  • Exercise secondary payment approval authority, ensuring payments are accurate, appropriately supported, and compliant with established financial controls.
  • Coordinate specialized claim matters, including tribunal proceedings and loss transfers, ensuring appropriate documentation, follow-up, and escalation.
  • Provide technical coaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to Case Coordinators and Case Managers while supporting consistency across the team.
  • Recognize complex, exceptional, sensitive, precedent-setting, or above-authority matters and consult with or escalate to the Care-First Manager.

What you bring to the team

  • 7+ years of relevant insurance claims experience, with strong experience in Accident Benefits, bodily injury, injury claims, or complex claims management
  • Advanced knowledge of claims handling, coverage and benefit assessment, applicable legislation, and technical claims practices
  • Demonstrated experience managing or providing technical guidance on complex, catastrophic, disputed, or high-exposure claims
  • Experience with reserve management, financial controls, claim file reviews, and quality assurance
  • Experience providing technical guidance, coaching, mentoring, or peer support to claims professionals
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex medical, financial, employment, and claim information and provide well-supported recommendations
  • Experience with fatality claims, tribunal matters, loss transfers, or other specialized Accident Benefits matters is considered an asset
  • A CIP designation is preferred; other relevant professional development is considered an asset
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly

How you will succeed

Success will be demonstrated by your ability to provide sound and consistent technical guidance, effectively support complex claims, strengthen claim quality through file reviews and audits, and provide effective coaching to the Care-First team. You will apply sound judgment to reserves and specialized claim matters, identify emerging risks and opportunities for improvement, and recognize when management consultation or escalation is required.
