Job Description:

Help shape the next generation of networking and edge-compute products.

Our product validation team works across the entire product stack to validate and enable next-generation networking and edge-compute solutions.

We are seeking an experienced engineering leader with a track record of leading and developing engineering teams while delivering complex system-level validation programs that impact the quality and success of our industry leading products. This role provides broad technical ownership and visibility across the full validation lifecycle, from early system architecture and platform development through validation and product release.

Microchip’s Communications Business Unit (CBU) develops high-performance networking, connectivity, and edge compute semiconductor solutions that power communications infrastructure, data centers, automotive systems, aerospace and defense platforms, and industrial applications. Our global team works across the full product lifecycle to deliver innovative products that enable the world’s most demanding connected systems.

You will collaborate with experts across multiple engineering disciplines while working with advanced technologies including high-speed Ethernet, PCI Express, optical networking, FPGA-based platforms, space-hardened embedded processors, automotive networking and 224Gbps SERDES systems.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on products deployed throughout the world's communications infrastructure while helping shape the next generation of engineering talent and technical practices within our organization.

What we do:

  • Design high-speed boards (up to 224 Gbps) using Microchip and third-party ICs, digital and analog circuits, and large programmable devices.
  • Design highly integrated, sophisticated FPGAs using VHDL/SystemVerilog.
  • Integrate complex test platforms containing multiple CPUs, high speed backplanes, traffic generation devices/testers, software, and boards developed by our team.
  • Plan and execute device feature tests, including results analysis, bug detection, and extensive root-cause analysis using Python and C/C++.
  • Work with leading edge test equipment such as 1.6T Ethernet testers, oscilloscopes, phase noise analyzers, network analyzers, and microprocessor trace probes.
  • Develop software, firmware, and automation solutions using Python, C/C++ and AI to control hardware platforms, validate product functionality, benchmark embedded processors, and troubleshoot complex multi-core SoC issues.
  • Collaborate closely with members of the Product Design, Verification, Software, Software Test, Applications, Marketing, and Product Engineering teams.
  • Add value to our devices by finding issues and developing and testing solutions.

Successful candidates will combine strong system-level technical depth with the ability to influence cross-functional teams, drive complex investigations, and deliver results across multiple engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers in the development and execution of validation strategies for next-generation networking and edge-compute products across the full product lifecycle.
  • Define validation plans, qualification criteria, coverage metrics, and release readiness requirements that ensure product quality and successful deployment.
  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced validation platforms spanning hardware, FPGA, software, automation, and system-level integration.
  • Participate in system architecture definition and platform planning to ensure products can be effectively validated, characterized, and deployed.
  • Lead investigation and root-cause analysis of complex silicon, hardware, firmware, software, networking, and interoperability issues.
  • Drive technical decision-making and influence product architecture, validation methodologies, and technical roadmaps for future products and platforms.
  • Partner with Product Design, Verification, Software, Applications, Product Engineering, Marketing, and other stakeholders to ensure successful product execution.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a small to medium-sized team of validation engineers, including performance management, technical mentorship, project prioritization, and career development.
  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership for the engineering team, including project planning, resource allocation, risk management, and technical reviews.
  • Coordinate project priorities, schedules, resources, and technical deliverables to achieve program objectives and business goals.
  • Develop and deploy new tools, automation frameworks, infrastructure, and methodologies that improve validation effectiveness, scalability, and product quality.
  • Communicate technical recommendations, project status, product readiness, and key risks to engineering leadership and stakeholders.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • 12+ years of related experience, including leadership of engineering teams and responsibility for technical execution of complex development or validation programs.
  • Proven technical and organizational leadership skills, including responsibility for engineering teams, project execution, resource planning, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Experience developing engineers through coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and career development.

Preferred Qualifications (experience with one or more):

  • Debug, validation, and bring-up of complex SoCs incorporating high-speed interfaces such as PCI Express and Ethernet.
  • High-speed networking, communications, or edge-compute systems.
  • Experience developing test automation, diagnostics, and validation infrastructure using Python, C/C++, VHDL, SystemVerilog, FPGA technologies, or related development tools.
  • System integration involving hardware, firmware, software, networking, and test infrastructure.
  • Root-cause analysis of complex product, interoperability, performance, or system-level issues.
  • High-speed serial technologies including SerDes, NRZ, PAM4, equalization techniques, and signal integrity concepts.
  • System characterization, margin analysis, performance optimization, and reliability testing of high-speed communication systems.
  • PCI Express, Ethernet, optical networking, switching, routing, or related communications technologies.
  • Use of advanced laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, BERTs, VNAs, protocol analyzers, and related test equipment.
  • Signal integrity, compliance testing, and characterization of high-speed interfaces.
  • Experience building, hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering teams in a validation, verification, hardware, software, or systems environment.
