SHAPING THE FUTURE THROUGH INNOVATION AND DISCOVERY!

With a history spanning more than seven decades, Communications & Power Industries’ thousands of products have impacted people’s lives in numerous unseen ways every day. Our highly engineered products serve as the backbone of modern-day commercial and military communications systems, assist in diagnosing medical conditions, empower scientific discoveries and space exploration, and much more.

CPI is headquartered in Plano, Texas and is a global manufacturer of electronic components and subsystems. We have manufacturing locations in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. With a heritage of technological excellence, our team serves customers in the communications, defense, medical, industrial, and scientific markets.

YOUR DAY TO DAY:

We are looking for a Commodity Manager to join our CPI Power Electronics team. This role is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for electro-mechanical assemblies, RF/microwave components, and related commodities. You will drive long-term supplier performance, cost reduction, and supply risk mitigation while ensuring sourcing decisions align with technical requirements and commercial objectives.

Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Program Management, you will lead supplier negotiations, outsourcing initiatives, and dual-sourcing strategies. The role combines strategic sourcing, technical understanding, commercial negotiation, and supplier relationship management to support reliable supply and long-term business needs.

YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR/TO:

Commodity Strategy & Market Analysis

  • Develop and execute commodity strategies for travelling-wave tubes (TWTs), travelling-wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs), circuit card assemblies/printed wiring board assemblies (CCAs/PWBAs), and electro-mechanical assemblies.

  • Monitor market trends, cost drivers, and emerging technologies relevant to assigned commodities.

  • Analyze supplier capabilities, capacity, financial health, and technology roadmaps to support strategic sourcing decisions.

Contract Negotiation & Cost Management

  • Lead contract negotiations, including long-term supply agreements, pricing structures, service levels, and risk-sharing mechanisms.

  • Drive measurable cost savings through strategic sourcing, value-engineering opportunities, and market analysis.

  • Develop commercial arrangements that support cost objectives, supplier performance, and supply continuity.

Technical & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with Engineering to understand technical specifications and translate them into clear commercial requirements for suppliers.

  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Program Management to align sourcing decisions and supplier strategies.

  • Ensure supplier selection and commercial requirements reflect both technical needs and business objectives.

Outsourcing & Supply Risk Management

  • Lead outsourcing initiatives, including supplier selection, qualification, and transition planning.

  • Develop and execute dual-sourcing strategies to maintain supply continuity and reduce supplier dependency.

  • Assess supplier risks and coordinate mitigation plans with internal teams and supply chain partners.

Supplier Performance & Relationship Management

  • Lead supplier performance management, including scorecards, business reviews, and corrective action plans.

  • Build and maintain effective supplier relationships that support long-term performance and business needs.

  • Work with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve performance issues and follow through on agreed improvements.

YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS JOB IF YOU HAVE:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field.

  • Proven experience sourcing electro-mechanical assemblies, RF/microwave components, or similar technical commodities.

  • Demonstrated success negotiating long-term agreements and achieving measurable cost savings.

  • The ability to interpret technical documentation and translate requirements into commercial supplier criteria.

  • Experience leading outsourcing programs and dual-sourcing initiatives.

  • Strong analytical, project management, and supplier relationship-building skills.

  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • A strong understanding of TWT, TWTA, and CCA/PWBA technologies is an asset.
