What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Training Manager, the Course Author develops and revises training materials under the direction of an Instructional Designer, Instructional Technologist, or training program lead. The role organizes approved technical content into clear, accurate, and consistent learning products; applies established templates and SAT-based development standards; and works with subject matter experts to ensure materials support defined learning objectives and safe job performance. This is a developmental role for an individual building capability in nuclear training and instructional design.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Draft and revise lesson plans, instructor guides, participant materials, presentations, e-learning content, knowledge checks, exercises, scenarios, job aids, and on-the-job training materials from approved designs and source documents.
  • Follow established templates, style guides, learning objectives, development plans, and document-control requirements.
  • Work with subject matter experts to gather technical information, confirm accuracy, resolve comments, and document source references.
  • Write clear, concise, learner-centred content appropriate to the audience’s entry-level knowledge and assigned work.
  • Develop draft questions and learning activities that align with approved objectives, with review and validation by more senior training staff.
  • Check content for consistency, completeness, readability, terminology, formatting, and traceability to approved requirements.
  • Incorporate review comments accurately and maintain revision histories and development records.
  • Support course pilots, validation sessions, classroom material preparation, learning management system uploads, and collection of learner feedback.
  • Update training materials when procedures, equipment, standards, or source documents change, under assigned direction.
  • Escalate technical conflicts, unclear source requirements, scope changes, or potential nuclear safety concerns to the designated reviewer.
  • Build working knowledge of SAT, adult learning, nuclear safety culture, human performance, and the organization’s training processes.
  • Manage assigned development tasks to agreed quality, schedule, and review milestones.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Diploma or degree in education, communications, technical writing, instructional design, engineering technology, science, skilled trades, or a related field; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Typically 1–3 years of experience developing training, technical, procedural, or educational content; experience in a regulated, technical, construction, energy, or safety-critical environment is an asset.
  • Strong writing, editing, organization, and document-formatting skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed direction, work from controlled technical sources, incorporate feedback, and meet established quality standards.
  • Basic understanding of adult learning or instructional design principles; familiarity with SAT/ADDIE is an asset and may be developed on the job.
  • Proficiency with common word-processing, presentation, collaboration, and digital authoring tools.
  • Ability to learn nuclear terminology and work effectively with technical subject matter experts.

Core Competencies:

  • Technical writing; learning agility; attention to detail; organization; collaboration; responsiveness to feedback; quality focus; accountability; safety awareness.

The expected pay range for this role is $60,000 - $80,000 per year.

Reason: New

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
