Job description

Deck Person/Top Person, Water & Sewer Infrastructure

Ottawa, ON | Taggart Construction Limited

Taggart Construction Limited is looking for a reliable Deck Person / Top Person to join our sewer and watermain crews on underground servicing projects across the Ottawa region.

For more than 75 years, Taggart Construction has helped build the essential infrastructure that supports communities across Eastern Ontario. As part of the Taggart Group, we offer the stability of a long-standing, family-owned business with the opportunity to do hands-on work that makes a lasting impact.

In this role, you will be the eyes, ears, and extra set of hands at ground level for the pipe layers and excavation crew working in the trench. While the pipe layer is in the ditch assembling and placing pipe, you will help keep materials, tools, signals, and safety moving smoothly from above.

What you’ll do:

  • Support pipe layers, shovel operators, and the excavation crew from ground level during sewer and watermain installation.
  • Manage the flow of pipe, fittings, tools, bedding, and other materials so the crew in the trench has what they need, when they need it.
  • Help guide equipment movement, communicate with operators and crew members, and maintain awareness of activity around the trench.
  • Keep the work area organized, safe, and productive by helping with housekeeping, material staging, and basic site support tasks.

What you bring:

  • Experience working on civil construction, sewer and water, excavation, or underground servicing crews is an asset.
  • Comfort working outdoors in all seasons, around active equipment, open trenches, and busy construction sites.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to stay alert, organized, and responsive in a fast-moving field environment.
  • A reliable, team-first approach and a safety-focused mindset.
  • Working at Heights certification is considered an asset.

Compensation: $40.18 - $40.92/hr

If you are dependable, hands-on, and ready to play a key role in keeping sewer and water crews moving safely and efficiently, we would like to hear from you.
