Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager, Growth based in Canada.

As Engineering Manager, Growth, you will lead engineering initiatives across product and marketing experiences, helping drive customer acquisition, activation, and retention.
You will guide a team of engineers while remaining closely involved in technical decisions, product details, and the quality of customer-facing experiences.
Working alongside Product, Design, Marketing, and Data teams, you will help identify the most valuable problems to solve and turn insights into effective solutions.
You will connect customer behavior, product improvements, and performance measurement to understand what drives sustainable growth.
The role also offers an opportunity to shape how engineering teams use AI to improve development workflows, solve complex problems, and build better products.
In a fully distributed and transparent working environment, you will promote ownership, continuous learning, and strong cross-functional collaboration.
This is an opportunity to combine people leadership, technical expertise, and product growth thinking while making a meaningful impact on a global product.

Accountabilities

You will lead the engineering work supporting growth initiatives, balancing team development, technical direction, and customer-focused product improvements. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Coach and support engineers through regular feedback, career development conversations, and guidance on professional growth.

    • Help engineers strengthen their skills, take ownership of their work, and address performance or development challenges.

    • Shape engineering priorities in partnership with Product, Design, and Marketing, bringing a clear technical perspective grounded in customer needs and data.

    • Remain involved in technical decisions, architecture discussions, code reviews, prototypes, and complex engineering trade-offs.

    • Guide the development of clear, accessible, responsive, and intuitive customer experiences across product and marketing surfaces.

    • Help the team determine when to refine existing solutions and when to release, gather feedback, and learn through experimentation.

    • Connect customer insights, product changes, and performance measurement to assess the impact of engineering initiatives.

    • Support growth across the customer journey, including acquisition, activation, conversion, and retention.

    • Explore and promote effective AI-assisted engineering practices through experimentation, thoughtful implementation, and sound technical judgment.

    • Help engineers use AI tools responsibly and effectively, including evaluating outputs, validating results, and applying their own expertise.

    • Contribute to the wider Engineering organization through recruitment, shared technical practices, and improvements to team workflows.

    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and high-quality delivery across a distributed team.

    • Requirements

The ideal candidate combines proven engineering leadership with strong technical foundations, product awareness, and an understanding of how software contributes to business growth. You should be comfortable supporting people, making technical decisions, and collaborating across disciplines and time zones.

      • Demonstrated experience managing software engineers, including coaching, providing constructive feedback, supporting career development, and addressing performance concerns.

      • Strong engineering background and continued ability to engage with technical details, including code reviews, architecture, prototyping, and complex technical decisions.

      • A customer-focused mindset and a strong appreciation for user experience, accessibility, and intuitive product design.

      • Ability to evaluate customer journeys, identify friction points, and explain the technical and product decisions behind solutions you have helped build.

      • Experience or strong understanding of product growth, including customer acquisition, activation, monetization, and retention.

      • Ability to use customer insights, data, and experimentation to prioritize engineering work and evaluate its impact.

      • Practical experience using AI tools in engineering workflows to solve more complex problems and improve productivity.

      • Sound judgment when working with AI-generated outputs, including the ability to guide, review, validate, and challenge their results.

      • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

      • High ownership, initiative, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

      • Comfort working with colleagues across different disciplines, locations, and time zones.

      • A personal connection to creating and sharing things, such as writing a newsletter, publishing work online, building side projects, or running a small business. A large audience is not required; an understanding of the effort involved in creating and reaching an audience is what matters.

      • Benefits

        • Competitive compensation: Annual salary range of $179,100–$235,361.

        • Equity: Opportunity to receive equity as part of the compensation package.

        • Remote-first culture: Work remotely as part of a fully distributed international team.

        • Transparent compensation philosophy: A clear approach to salary, equity, and benefits built around fairness, simplicity, transparency, and generosity.

        • Professional development: Opportunities to grow as an engineering leader while shaping technical direction and team practices.

        • Meaningful leadership impact: Help develop engineers, influence product growth, and contribute to the broader Engineering organization.

        • AI innovation: Opportunity to experiment with AI-assisted engineering and help shape how teams build software.

        • Team connection: In-person team gatherings approximately once or twice per year, which are strongly encouraged to strengthen relationships and collaboration.

        • Collaborative environment: Work within a culture that values transparency, autonomy, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
