Job description

For more than 120 years, McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes has served Calgary families with professionalism, compassion and exceptional attention to detail.

A spotless entrance. A carefully prepared arrangement room. A chapel that feels welcoming and cared for. The small details that most people may never consciously notice – but that make an enormous difference when a family walks through our doors.

At McInnis & Holloway, housekeeping is much more than keeping our facilities clean. Our Housekeeping Attendants play an important part in creating the calm, professional and welcoming environment our families expect during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

If you take pride in exceptionally clean spaces, notice the details others miss, and enjoy knowing that your work genuinely matters, this may be the role for you.

What Your Day Looks Like

This is a full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly. Core hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but flexibility is an important part of this role.

Our Housekeeping team supports multiple funeral home locations throughout Calgary. Priorities can change quickly based on services, events, vacations and operational needs, so you must be comfortable changing locations on short notice, filling vacation gaps in the housekeeping schedule and providing weekend coverage when required.

Occasionally, the work also happens after everyone else has gone home. At our busier locations, you may be scheduled for an evening shift, such as 4:00 p.m. to midnight, to complete carpet steam cleaning and other work that is best performed when the building is quiet.

Your day may include:

· Cleaning and maintaining offices, meeting rooms, visitation rooms, chapels, washrooms, kitchens and common areas

· Vacuuming, dusting and cleaning windows, mirrors, artwork and woodwork

· Carpet cleaning and steam cleaning soft seating

· Maintaining tile and laminate flooring, including waxing and stripping

· Emptying garbage, recycling and compost

· Maintaining entrances and removing leaves, rocks, snow and other debris

· Cleaning and maintaining staff and preparation kitchens, including loading and unloading dishwashers

· Caring for plants throughout our locations

· Preparing coffee and cookies and ensuring arrangement rooms are stocked and ready before families arrive

· Monitoring and ordering cleaning, lunchroom and event supplies

· Providing coverage at different locations to help keep our housekeeping schedule running smoothly

· Pitching in wherever needed to help our locations look and operate at their best

What Makes a Great Housekeeping Attendant Here?

You notice things.
A fingerprint on glass. A chair out of place. An arrangement room that needs restocking. You don't need someone to point out every detail – you naturally see what needs attention.

You take pride in your work.
“Good enough” isn't really your thing. You like leaving a space knowing it has been properly cared for.

You're adaptable.
You may start your week expecting to work at one location and be needed somewhere else instead. A vacation, busy service schedule or unexpected staffing gap can change the plan. You're comfortable adjusting and helping where you're needed most.

You understand the environment you're working in.
Our funeral homes are active workplaces, but they're also places where families may be grieving, gathering and making important decisions. You are comfortable working quietly, respectfully and professionally around them.

You're dependable.
Our locations need to be ready for families every day. Your team can count on you to be there and to get the job done.

You're comfortable working independently.
You can organize your day, manage your responsibilities and maintain a consistent standard without needing constant direction.

What You Bring

· At least 2 years of commercial cleaning experience

· Experience safely using commercial cleaning equipment, products and chemicals

· Experience with carpet cleaning/steam-cleaning equipment

· Strong attention to detail and high standards for cleanliness

· A positive, professional and respectful approach

· The ability to travel between McInnis & Holloway locations throughout Calgary

· Flexibility to change work locations on short notice based on operational needs

· Availability to provide weekend coverage, including covering scheduled vacations and other gaps in the housekeeping schedule

· Availability to occasionally work evening shifts, including approximately 4:00 p.m. to midnight, for carpet cleaning requirements

· Comfort wearing a company-provided uniform

· The physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly push, pull, bend, crouch, reach overhead, use small ladders and lift up to 20 kg

· Ability to provide a clear background check

Why McInnis & Holloway?

Our standard isn't created by one department. It takes an entire team – and our Housekeeping Attendants are an important part of it.

We offer:

· Starting wage of $21.00/hour

· Full-time hours, with regular core hours of Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

· Participation in our quarterly Team Incentive Program after six months

· Comprehensive health and dental benefits after three months

· Vacation accumulation beginning on your first day of employment

· RRSP program with company contributions

· Matching savings plan

· Company-provided uniforms, including a footwear allowance

· KUDOS employee recognition and rewards

· Opportunities for professional growth and development

· Company events and a supportive team environment

Your Work Makes an Impression

Families may never know who prepared the room before they arrived, polished the entrance, stocked the coffee station or made sure every detail was exactly where it needed to be.

But they will notice how the space made them feel.

If you're an experienced housekeeping professional who takes genuine pride in creating clean, welcoming and beautifully maintained spaces – and you're comfortable with the flexibility that comes with supporting multiple busy locations – we'd love to hear from you.

As part of our application process, candidates are required to complete the prescreening questions included with this posting. Only applicants who complete the prescreening questions will be considered for the position.

While we appreciate all applications, only candidates who most closely match the requirements of the position will be contacted for an interview. This competition will remain open until suitable candidates are found.
