Department Overview

This position is in the Global Compensation team within Corporate Human Resources. We help all of TD's businesses improve results through people-focused pay solutions. With centres of expertise across policy and planning, compensation design, compensation advisory, and acquisition and divestiture activity, we develop and customize base salary, cash incentive, and equity compensation programs, annually review salary structures, and conduct market research to develop and validate our policies and programs.

Job Description

As a valued member of the Compensation team supporting Human Resources, the HR M&A Advisor will report to the Senior Manager, Mergers and Acquisitions, Compensation Advisory. This role will be accountable for working both independently and with the Senior Manager to support TD's M&A commitments globally, including acquisitions, divestitures and other strategic transactions, and to provide analytical, project and execution support for priority Compensation and Total Rewards initiatives and special projects as required.

The role will provide professional research, complex and often non-standard analytics, modelling, project management and implementation support to inform key decisions. The nature and mix of assignments will vary based on M&A activity and evolving business and Compensation priorities, requiring the incumbent to move effectively between transaction-related work and other high-priority initiatives. The incumbent will also play an important role in supporting and educating business and HR partners on key Total Rewards policies and programs and will work closely with HR Business Partners, HR Centres of Expertise, Corporate Development, the corporate M&A team and business leaders.

Key accountabilities of this role include:

• Support the delivery of TD's M&A commitments across the transaction lifecycle, including acquisitions, divestitures and other strategic transactions, working across HR, Total Rewards, Corporate Development and business partners as required.

• Conduct detailed due diligence, research and analysis across Compensation and other Total Rewards programs to identify key considerations, risks, costs and opportunities and support informed transaction decisions.

• Apply detailed knowledge of compensation fundamentals, including market intelligence, market pricing, job and level structures, compensation plan evaluation, performance programs, cash incentives and equity programs.

• Develop and apply an understanding of benefits, pension and retirement programs to support integrated HR and Total Rewards assessments.

• Perform complex, non-standard analytics and develop recommendations that influence key decisions, including employee and FTE costing estimates, implementation costs, scenario analysis and financial impacts.

• Prepare quantitative and qualitative assessments of acquisition and divestiture opportunities across relevant HR programs, including compensation, job level structures, benefits, retirement programs and other reward programs.

• Create complex models, business cases, executive presentations and decision materials that distill large amounts of information into clear findings, options, risks and recommendations.

• Create, maintain and continuously improve standardized M&A tools, processes, templates and governance practices that span multiple HR and Total Rewards disciplines.

• Support the implementation and delivery of transaction-related commitments, including coordination of required activities, tracking of decisions and dependencies, and escalation of risks or issues.

• Support priority Compensation and Total Rewards initiatives and special projects as required, providing flexible capacity for complex research, analysis, modelling, project management and execution support based on evolving business needs.

• Manage a portfolio of M&A commitments and special projects, flexing priorities and capacity in response to transaction timelines, emerging business requirements and Compensation priorities.

• Work independently on smaller transactions and assignments, with oversight and direction on larger, higher-risk or more complex transactions and projects.

• Build strong relationships and effective working alliances with HR Business Partners, Total Rewards subject matter experts, Corporate Development, business leaders and other key partners.

• Interact with and influence senior audiences by presenting fact-based conclusions and recommendations clearly and confidently.

• Monitor internal and external trends relevant to M&A, Compensation and Total Rewards and assess potential implications for transactions, programs and special projects.

• Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment and work flexible hours, both within and outside standard business hours, when required to meet transaction or project needs.

Job Requirements

You are an enthusiastic team player with a demonstrated pattern of success and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You can manage multiple transactions, projects and priorities at one time and bring an inquisitive, practical and collaborative approach. You are a self-starter with exceptional analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, sound judgment and the ability to operate effectively in unique or ambiguous situations.

Analytical/Conceptual Thinking:

• Strong numerical capability with statistical and/or financial knowledge and a high level of attention to detail.

• Comfortable with ambiguity and able to frame issues, identify required information and develop practical approaches where precedent or direction is limited.

• Able to lead and conduct complex, non-standard analysis and research, including impact and contextual analysis, and translate findings into comprehensive assessments and recommendations.

• Proven ability to analyze large amounts of data, compare multiple programs, identify key HR and Total Rewards risks, recognize trends and provide clear explanations of implications.

• Ability to identify patterns and relationships that are not immediately obvious and uncover underlying or related issues.

• Ability to challenge existing processes constructively and initiate new approaches where they will improve quality, efficiency or outcomes.

• Ability to present findings, options and recommendations in a clear, concise and decision-oriented format.

• Advanced working knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Project Management:

• Well organized, with strong project management, planning and coordination skills.

• Ability to establish workplans, manage interdependencies, track commitments and deliver high-quality work within compressed or changing timelines.

• Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment without losing momentum or quality.

Execution & Results Orientation:

• Demonstrates a strong commitment to execution excellence and resilience in the pursuit of goals, commitments and project outcomes.

• Enjoys creating solutions from the ground up and working through unique situations where information, precedent or direction may be limited.

• Balances competing M&A commitments and special-project priorities while maintaining quality, accuracy and timely execution.

• Takes ownership of assigned deliverables, proactively identifies risks and follows through on decisions and commitments.

Learning Orientation:

• A self-initiated learner with the curiosity and inclination to understand different businesses, transaction contexts and HR or Total Rewards disciplines.

• Able to learn quickly and determine how a range of solutions, programs and analytical approaches can be applied to solve problems.

• Able to take independent action, proactively anticipate future needs and seek the information and expertise required to move work forward.

Impact and Influence:

• Demonstrates the ability to build business cases and persuasive arguments based on facts, experience and logic, and to present and communicate results and recommendations effectively at all levels.

• Ability to influence key partners, including HR Business Partners, Total Rewards subject matter experts, Corporate Development, the corporate M&A team and business leaders.

• Ability to understand, anticipate and respond to questions arising from analysis, recommendations and transaction or project decisions.

• Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills, with the ability to create a network of resources and bring together the right expertise to support an outcome.

Additional Information

• Bachelor's degree in business management, human resources or labour relations, mathematics, economics, finance or a related discipline preferred.

• Experience in a Compensation or Total Rewards role is an asset.

• Experience supporting M&A, complex cross-functional projects, financial modelling, due diligence or change implementation is an asset.

• This role may require flexibility to support confidential, time-sensitive transactions and special projects across multiple jurisdictions and time zones.
