Reporting to the Director of Finance, you’ll manage employee relations, support employment compliance, and oversee core HR programs, including compensation and benefits. This hands-on role combines practical employee support with opportunities to strengthen our policies, improve processes, and use technology to support a growing organization.

Responsibilities:

Employee Relations, Performance & Engagement

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for employee relations matters across North America, providing timely, fair, and confidential support to employees and managers.
  • Lead workplace investigations into complaints and concerns, including harassment and discrimination, and document findings and recommended corrective actions.
  • Coach managers on performance management, progressive discipline, and performance improvement plans, ensuring consistent practices and appropriate documentation.
  • Manage terminations and layoffs, coordinating documentation, applicable payments, release agreements, and communications with payroll and legal counsel as needed.
  • Mediate workplace conflicts and manage employee complaints through resolution, identifying recurring issues and recommending improvements.
  • Coordinate responses to employment-related inquiries and claims from regulatory bodies, working with legal counsel and relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Lead engagement surveys and exit interviews; report on retention risks and turnover themes, and partner with leaders on actions that strengthen culture, morale, and retention.

HR Operations, Compensation & Benefits

  • Develop and maintain HR policies, programs, and processes that support consistent practices, applicable employment requirements, and organizational growth.
  • Maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS throughout the employee lifecycle, including new hires, role and compensation changes, and departures, supported by quarterly data audits.
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll inputs with the payroll provider each pay cycle, resolving discrepancies in hours, deductions, and paid time off accruals before processing deadlines.
  • Administer leaves of absence and workplace accommodations, including eligibility review, documentation, and return-to-work coordination.
  • Manage the annual compensation review cycle, including pay bands, job architecture, market benchmarking, and recommendations for merit increases and promotions.
  • Administer employee benefits enrollment and changes, respond to benefits questions, and support annual plan renewals.

Recruitment Oversight & Workforce Planning

  • Partner with department leaders on annual and quarterly hiring plans, reviewing and approving requisitions against approved budgets and headcount.
  • Oversee recruitment practices to support consistent hiring standards and a positive candidate experience; review and approve offers for compensation alignment, internal pay equity, and appropriate terms.
  • Support offer negotiations for senior or hard-to-fill roles, and lead workforce planning and succession discussions to anticipate staffing needs and internal mobility opportunities.

HR Technology, AI & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to simplify and automate HR workflows, applying AI-enabled tools where appropriate to reduce manual work and improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Evaluate HR technology and AI vendors for functionality, accuracy, data security, privacy, and potential bias, and recommend solutions based on business needs and measurable results.
  • Establish responsible practices for AI use in HR, aligned with applicable legal requirements and company data protection standards, and track the impact of new tools and processes.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 2 years as an HR Manager or HR Generalist.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Human Rights Code, as well as U.S. federal and applicable state employment laws, with the ability to apply these requirements to day-to-day HR practices.
  • Demonstrated experience managing employee relations matters, conducting workplace investigations, and coaching managers on performance management and progressive discipline.
  • Hands-on experience coordinating payroll inputs and administering employee benefits, leaves of absence, and workplace accommodations.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and applicant tracking systems, with demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technology, including AI-enabled tools.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accuracy, and improve HR policies and processes in a growing organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships across departments and provide practical guidance to employees, managers, and senior leaders.
  • CHRP or CHRL designation is an asset.

Why Work With Us?

  • Join a passionate, fast-growing team focused on making a meaningful impact in the Fitness & Wellness industry.
  • Enjoy a competitive compensation package, including vacation and benefits.
  • Benefit from a flexible hybrid work environment with opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Be part of a collaborative culture that values creativity, innovation, and continuous learning.
