Junior Account Manager – Gillespie-Munro Inc. (GMI) | Mississauga, ON

The Opportunity

Gillespie-Munro Inc. (GMI) is looking for a Junior Account Manager to develop business opportunities within our existing customer and prospect database, with a focus on international freight forwarding.

The primary focus of this role is to re-engage and qualify companies where GMI has had at least one previous touchpoint. You will reconnect with contacts, understand their current and future shipping requirements, identify genuine freight forwarding opportunities and develop those relationships through consistent follow-up.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is confident, personable, curious and interested in building a career in sales and international logistics.

You do not need to know the freight forwarding business on day one – we will teach you!

Key Responsibilities

Customer & Prospect Development

  • Work through GMI's existing customer and prospect database.
  • Reconnect with companies where GMI has previously had contact.
  • Identify decision-makers and key contacts involved in shipping and logistics.
  • Understand each company's current and future international shipping requirements.
  • Ask questions and qualify opportunities based on shipping needs, trade lanes, timing and business potential.
  • Re-engage inactive accounts and develop qualified freight forwarding opportunities.
  • Maintain consistent follow-up and move opportunities through the sales process.
  • Work with the sales and operations teams to advance qualified opportunities.

Relationship Management

  • Build professional relationships with prospective customers and existing GMI accounts.
  • Understand customer shipping requirements and identify where GMI can provide value.
  • Introduce GMI's freight forwarding capabilities and service offerings.
  • Maintain regular contact with qualified prospects and customers.
  • Identify opportunities to grow existing customer relationships and expand GMI's share of business.

CRM & Follow-Up

  • Maintain accurate customer and prospect information in the CRM.
  • Document conversations, shipping requirements, opportunities and next steps.
  • Track follow-ups and ensure opportunities are not lost due to lack of communication or follow-through.
  • Provide regular updates on activity, customer engagement and qualified opportunities.

Learning the Business

  • Develop knowledge of GMI's international freight forwarding services, including air freight, ocean freight, ground transportation, project cargo and cross-trade shipments.
  • Learn the fundamentals of international shipping, freight forwarding and customer requirements.
  • Develop an understanding of import and export processes, shipping documentation and international trade lanes.
  • Work alongside experienced team members to build freight forwarding and sales knowledge.
  • Learn how to identify customer shipping challenges and position GMI's services as practical solutions.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confident and comfortable speaking with customers by phone and email.
  • Naturally curious and able to ask thoughtful questions.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Professional, personable and self-motivated.
  • Able to recognize and qualify genuine business opportunities.
  • Comfortable working toward measurable goals and sales objectives.
  • Interested in international business, transportation and logistics.
  • Previous sales, customer service or freight forwarding experience is an asset, but not required.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the international logistics industry.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Performance Expectations

Success will be measured by the quality of opportunities identified and developed, not simply the number of calls made.

  • Consistently work through assigned accounts and prospects.
  • Re-engage previous GMI contacts and identify potential freight forwarding opportunities.
  • Properly qualify and document prospects.
  • Maintain consistent follow-up on active opportunities.
  • Identify decision-makers and gather relevant shipping and customer information.
  • Generate meaningful customer conversations.
  • Identify potential air, ocean, ground and project freight opportunities.
  • Progress qualified opportunities to the next stage of the sales process.
  • Maintain accurate CRM activity and follow-up records.
  • Demonstrate increasing knowledge of GMI's services and the international freight forwarding industry.

Career Growth

This role is designed for someone looking to build a long-term career in sales and account management within the international freight forwarding industry.

As knowledge, confidence and performance develop, the role can grow to include greater account responsibility, new business development and the management of an established customer portfolio.

The goal is to develop someone who can confidently manage customer relationships, understand international shipping requirements and contribute to GMI's continued business growth.
