You will also champion modern engineering practices, including the responsible adoption of AI-assisted development tools.
This is a remote opportunity within Canada, offering the chance to make a meaningful impact on large-scale Internet infrastructure.

Accountabilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day engineering execution, including planning, prioritization, delivery, release coordination, and blocker resolution.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture discussions, code reviews, troubleshooting, and contributions to production code.
  • Guide technical design and architectural decisions while contributing to broader platform strategy and cross-system initiatives.
  • Translate business and product requirements into actionable engineering plans, balancing roadmap objectives, technical debt, and operational priorities.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of backend services, applications, RESTful APIs, database schemas, and integrations.
  • Coordinate complex technical initiatives across multiple teams, working closely with Product, Operations, QA, Design, and other engineering stakeholders.
  • Drive improvements in system reliability, scalability, performance, security, observability, and maintainability.
  • Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen production systems.
  • Establish and continuously improve engineering standards, including automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, documentation, code quality, and release management.
  • Promote the effective and responsible use of AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity, testing, code quality, and engineering workflows.
  • Define clear engineering objectives and monitor delivery, quality, and reliability metrics to support continuous improvement.
  • Encourage technical ownership and independent decision-making while balancing hands-on involvement with delegation and mentorship.
  • Communicate technical decisions, delivery progress, risks, and operational priorities clearly to stakeholders.
  • Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience, with strong expertise in backend development, system design, and production applications.
  • At least 2 years of engineering management experience, including direct people management, mentoring, and performance evaluation.
  • Strong programming experience with Python, Go, or comparable backend languages.
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI or Gin.
  • Solid experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including database schema design and query optimization.
  • Proven ability to design, build, and operate highly available, scalable, and reliable software services.
  • Strong technical judgment and hands-on development capabilities, including production code contributions and complex technical problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts, trade-offs, and risks to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience managing engineering delivery, technical priorities, and cross-functional dependencies.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, or similar development frameworks.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted software development tools, with an understanding of appropriate validation, quality assurance, and security practices.
  • Experience with automated testing, Continuous Integration, Git, and modern software development workflows.
  • Proven ability to support production environments, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and lead incident response.
  • Experience managing and collaborating with geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • Nice-to-have qualifications:

  • Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other message brokers.
  • Knowledge of DNS, EPP, RDAP, or other Internet protocols.
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications, systems, and services.
  • Background developing and maintaining e-commerce or other transaction-oriented platforms.
  • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms and container technologies such as Docker, Docker Swarm, or Kubernetes.
