Job description

About Proximity

Proximity Institute (Proximity) is an independent charitable organization dedicated to leadership development at the most senior level in Ontario hospitals. Our mandate is leadership development and change leadership. Our purpose is to advance hospital CEO leadership for the health of Ontarians. Our long-term ambition is to work collaboratively with Ontario hospitals to identify, develop and ready a quality pipeline of emerging CEO talent. Proximity was founded by the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA).

About the Role

The Manager, Leadership Programs is an integral member of a small, high-performing team responsible for the design, delivery and continuous improvement of leadership development programs and strategic initiatives that support Ontario hospital leaders. Working closely with healthcare leaders, stakeholders, and subject matter experts, the Manager translates sector insights, emerging priorities, and leading practices into practical learning experiences, resources, tools, and thought leadership that strengthens leadership impact across Ontario hospitals. The role combines stakeholder engagement, facilitation, program leadership, content development, and project management to create impactful leadership development opportunities and resources aligned with Proximity's strategic priorities.

This is an individual contributor role focused on the management, coordination, and execution of leadership development initiatives and related projects, with no direct people management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute leadership development initiatives such as roundtables and workshops that deliver exceptional value to hospital leaders and are aligned with Proximity’s strategy
  • Provide subject matter expertise and strategic advice on leadership development topics, serving as a trusted partner to stakeholders and contributing to the development of Proximity's thought leadership
  • Lead information-gathering and discovery activities, including interviews, focus groups and literature reviews to understand complex leadership challenges and inform the development of impactful, contextually relevant solutions
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with hospital leaders, healthcare stakeholders, industry partners, researchers, and academic collaborators
  • Evaluate and continuously improve offerings through stakeholder feedback, assessment activities, data analysis, and the implementation of recommendations
  • Manage budgets, schedule and scope of initiatives in adherence with Proximity project management practices
  • Contribute to the planning and operations of the team through strategic planning, roadmap development, performance measurement, and ongoing alignment with organizational priorities
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop publications and resources, including short articles, reports, business or teaching cases, and other materials that drive leadership development and strategic value
  • Partner with researchers, industry experts and academic leaders to identify, develop, and apply emerging evidence, leading practices, and innovations that strengthen leadership development initiatives
  • Contribute to a collaborative, entrepreneurial team culture by supporting priorities across the organization and undertaking other duties as required

About You

You bring strengths in areas such as:

  • Leadership Insight & Problem Solving: You are able to analyze complex leadership challenges, identify patterns and underlying issues, and develop practical, contextually relevant solutions informed by evidence, stakeholder perspectives, and sector trends
  • Communication & Influence: You communicate (written and verbal) with clarity and purpose, translating complex concepts into clear, persuasive, and actionable messages for diverse audiences
  • Project Management: You are organized and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, delivering high-quality outcomes while balancing competing demands and deadlines
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Building: You build trusted relationships with senior leaders, stakeholders, and partners. You demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism, and are comfortable navigating sensitive conversations and complex stakeholder environments
  • Curiosity & Continuous Learning: You are naturally curious and enjoy exploring new ideas, perspectives, and emerging trends. You seek to understand the ‘why’ behind complex challenges and continuously expand your knowledge and expertise
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: You thrive in collaborative, high-performing environments, bringing a positive, flexible, and team-oriented approach while taking ownership of your work and contributing to collective success.

Qualifications and experience

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in leadership development, organizational development, executive talent management, management consulting, healthcare strategy, program leadership, or related fields
  • Bachelor's degree in business, leadership, organizational development, education, health administration, social sciences, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Master's degree in leadership, organizational development, adult education, business, health administration, or a related discipline considered an asset
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering leadership development initiatives, programs, workshops, or learning experiences for leadership and executive audiences
  • Demonstrated experience engaging senior stakeholders and developing trusted relationships across complex organizations and systems
  • Experience applying evidence-informed approaches, including research, environmental scanning, stakeholder consultation, and analysis, to inform decision-making and solution development
