Position Overview
Pulsenics is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer with 6+ years of experience to lead the design and development of high-power electronic systems used to test and operate electrochemical devices. This role owns the end-to-end development of power conversion hardware and control systems, including converters, inverters, battery chargers, and variable-frequency drives, across the full lifecycle from concept and simulation to prototyping, validation, and production support.
You will work closely with firmware, software, mechanical, and systems engineers to deliver robust, high-performance power electronics that operate reliably in demanding laboratory and industrial environments. This is a hands-on, ownership-driven role for an engineer who has shipped real hardware and is comfortable making architectural and trade-off decisions under real constraints.
Why This Role Matters
Pulsenics’ systems operate at power levels where efficiency, stability, and protection are critical to both safety and data integrity. The performance of the power electronics directly affects measurement accuracy, system reliability, and customer trust.
The Senior Power Electronics Engineer defines how Pulsenics’ systems behave under real operating conditions. Sound design choices, disciplined validation, and clear ownership in this role are essential to maintaining Pulsenics’ technical leadership in electrochemical test and measurement systems.
What We’re Looking For
Engineers who take full ownership of power electronics performance and reliability.
Individuals who are comfortable being the technical authority on their designs.
People who value correctness, robustness, and disciplined validation.
Clear communicators who collaborate effectively across disciplines.
Engineers who thrive in environments with real hardware, real constraints, and real consequences.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of 10 kW to 100 kW power electronic systems, including converters, inverters, battery chargers, and variable-frequency drives.
Own the hardware development process from conceptual design and simulation through schematic capture, PCB layout review, prototyping, and validation.
Provide technical leadership and design review at the PCB and system level to ensure electrical performance, robustness, and manufacturability.
Select and design with appropriate power semiconductor technologies, including MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC, and GaN devices.
Design, model, and simulate power and control circuits using tools such as PSpice, LTSpice, TINA, and PLECS.
Define and execute design verification and validation activities, including margin analysis, FMEA, performance characterization, and compliance testing.
Build and test prototypes to validate design assumptions and ensure reliable operation under real-world conditions.
Iterate on new and existing designs and support transition to production in collaboration with contract manufacturers.
Work independently on focused projects or as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team on larger programs.
Collaborate closely with firmware, software, and mechanical teams to ensure tight integration of power electronics into complete systems.
Qualifications
6+ years of professional experience in power electronics design and control.
Strong foundation in analog circuitry, SMPS design, ADCs/DACs, microprocessors, DSPs, and FPGA-based systems.
Hands-on experience with STM32 or similar microcontroller families.
Demonstrated experience designing high-power or high-voltage systems; EV, industrial, or energy systems experience is a strong asset.
Familiarity with battery behavior and electrochemical systems is highly preferred.
Proven ability to independently design, debug, and validate complex power electronics hardware.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear technical documentation.
Willingness to travel occasionally, including international travel.
BSc, MSc, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
