Job description

Our client is an established Canadian manufacturer operating in the sporting goods and outdoor recreation industry. The organization specializes in the design, development, and manufacturing of high-quality products, serving customers across domestic and international markets.

With a focus on product quality, innovation, and continuous improvement, the company offers a collaborative and hands-on working environment where employees have the opportunity to contribute to its ongoing growth and operational success.

For their Dynamics Engineering Team, they are looking for a Senior Product Design Engineer who will design innovative, precision mechanical products, driving them through the entire development process, from ideation to production. The new hire will turn concepts into manufacturable products through an iterative cycle of modeling, prototyping, testing, and revising until the design meets project requirements. Working across multiple concurrent projects, the Senior Product Design Engineer will collaborate with design, testing, and manufacturing to keep scope, costs, and timelines on track.

This is a full-time, permanent role requiring daily in-office presence in Chilliwack, BC.

Responsibilities:

· Design and develop innovative, precision mechanical products from initial concept through to mass production.

· Translate product concepts and user requirements into functional, manufacturable designs.

· Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.

· Apply engineering fundamentals, including mechanical dynamics, mechanics of materials, and precision fabrication principles, to develop reliable product designs.

· Design components for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA), considering processes such as injection molding and machining.

· Develop and interpret mechanical drawings, including functional dimensioning, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and tolerance stack-up analysis.

· Build, test, and refine physical prototypes through iterative design, testing, and validation.

· Conduct engineering testing and analysis, including FEA, simulation, and design of experiments (DOE).

· Evaluate and select appropriate materials, including engineering polymers, metals, adhesives, coatings, and surface finishes.

· Collaborate with design, testing, and manufacturing teams to ensure products meet technical, quality, cost, and performance requirements.

· Manage multiple concurrent development projects, keeping scope, budgets, and timelines on track.

· Work with suppliers, vendors, and contract manufacturers to support product development and production.

· Participate in formal stage-gate or phase-gate product development processes.

· Continuously improve product designs based on testing results, manufacturing feedback, and end-user requirements.

· Maintain a user-centered approach, ensuring products deliver the expected levels of performance, precision, durability, and reliability.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

• 3+ years of mechanical design experience across a range of fabrication processes

• 3+ years developing physical consumer products from concept through to mass production, working within cross-functional teams

• Experience with precision fabrication and assembly methods, plus mechanical drawing including functional dimensioning, geometric tolerancing, and tolerance stack-up analysis

• Firm grasp of engineering fundamentals, dynamics of mechanical systems, mechanics of materials, and precision fabrication

• Hands-on knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly, including designing parts for injection molding and machining

• Testing and analysis experience, including FEA, simulation, and design of experiments

• Proficiency in SolidWorks, including part modeling, assemblies, and drawings

• Experience with outdoor goods, sporting goods, firearms, or other precision and rugged consumer products that involve moving mechanisms

• A user-centered approach, translating real user needs into requirements and keeping the user experience front and center

• Proven hands-on prototyping ability, including building, testing, and iterating functional prototypes and test fixtures in the lab

• Materials knowledge for demanding consumer applications: engineering polymers, metals, adhesives, coatings, and surface finishes

• Experience owning supplier and vendor relationships, including contract manufacturers

• Familiarity with a formal stage-gate or phase-gate development process

Compensation:

• $90,000-125,000 annual base salary

• Up to 3% RRSP match

• Gym membership

• 100% employer paid extended healthcare package

• Health care spending account

• Time banking, flexible vacation, and paid holidays
