SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER

Information Technology

Victoria or Vancouver Lower Mainland

BC Ferries is embarking on a bold, multi-year transformation of our business and the way we work. This evolution is focused on strengthening the experience for both our customers and employees; while ensuring we continue to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable service—now and into the future.

As our vessels and terminals become increasingly connected, and we adopt modern platforms powered by advanced analytics and artificial intelligence, we’re looking for forward-thinking leaders and talented professionals who are excited by what’s possible. People who not only embrace innovation, but who also know how to build, inspire, and empower teams to turn vision into reality.

If you thrive in complex, large-scale environments, enjoy driving enterprise-wide transformation, and are comfortable operating at the intersection of people, process and technology, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. Join us and play a meaningful role in shaping the future of coastal transportation—where the challenge is significant and the impact is lasting.

The Opportunity

At BC Ferries, technology and transformation play an important role in how we connect coastal communities and deliver safe, reliable and affordable service. Making that happen takes strong project leadership, thoughtful planning and the ability to bring people together around a shared goal.

We’re looking for a Senior Project Manager to lead complex, high-impact IT projects that support our business priorities and shape how we work today and into the future. From enterprise technology implementations to cross-functional business transformation initiatives, you’ll guide projects from planning through implementation, ensuring they deliver on their objectives, timelines and budgets.

Working closely with business and technology leaders, project sponsors, vendors and cross-functional teams, you’ll navigate competing priorities, manage risks and dependencies, and turn complex challenges into practical solutions. If you’re an experienced project leader who thrives on bringing clarity to complexity and delivering meaningful business outcomes, this is an opportunity to make a difference.

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Portfolio Planning and Execution, you contribute value through key areas of oversight such as:

  • Leading complex, cross-functional IT projects from initiation through implementation and closure, ensuring alignment with business priorities, agreed scope, schedules, budgets and expected outcomes;
  • Defining project objectives, deliverables, success measures and delivery plans in collaboration with business stakeholders, project sponsors and technology leaders;
  • Establishing and managing project governance, including Steering Committee meetings, status reporting, decision-making, escalations and stakeholder communications;
  • Building strong relationships across business and technology teams, facilitating discussions and resolving competing priorities to maintain alignment and momentum;
  • Developing and maintaining integrated project plans, managing resources, risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies and scope changes throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Managing project financial performance by monitoring actual and forecasted expenditures, analyzing budget variances, identifying financial risks and implementing corrective actions;
  • Leading change management activities to support stakeholder readiness, adoption and successful transitions to new systems, processes and ways of working;
  • Translating business needs into project requirements and technology solutions, advising stakeholders on priorities, sequencing, dependencies and delivery considerations;
  • Partnering with Procurement & Supply Chain on technology sourcing activities, including RFP/RFI development, requirements definition, vendor evaluation and selection;
  • Coordinating interdependencies across projects, applications, business processes and technology services to manage impacts and support successful delivery across the IT portfolio;
  • Providing project team leadership, fostering collaboration and accountability among internal teams, vendors and other project resources;
  • Conducting post-implementation reviews, capturing lessons learned and applying project management best practices to strengthen future delivery;

What you bring to the team

  • A bachelor’s or associate degree in Business, Computer Science or a related discipline
  • 10–12 years of progressive project management experience, including leading complex business and technology projects through the full project lifecycle
  • At least 2–4 years of experience managing large-scale technology or capital projects with budgets exceeding $2 million, including enterprise application or cloud-based technology implementations
  • Experience with enterprise platforms and integration technologies, such as Oracle Fusion, Oracle Integration Cloud, Azure Integration Services, UKG Workforce Management, Maximo Application Suite or comparable solutions
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, governance frameworks, risk management and change control, with the ability to apply established practices to complex initiative
  • Demonstrated expertise in project financial management, including budget forecasting, expenditure tracking, variance analysis and financial reporting
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority and guide diverse teams toward shared decisions
  • Proficiency with project planning and collaboration tools, including MS Project, Jira and related project management and reporting applications
  • A project management certification is an asset
