Job description

Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) is hiring a Senior Retail Operations Advisor, Lumber, on a permanent basis on our Home and Building Solutions (HABS) team.

This position is a remote opportunity and is based out of Edmonton, AB or Calgary, AB. Although you will not be required to come into the office on a regular basis, the job will require you to travel to local Co-ops across Alberta and northern British Columbia up to 70%.

Join a dynamic team driving profitable growth across lumber operations in Western Canada. As a Senior Retail Operations Advisor, you’ll be a strategic partner to Local Co-ops—coaching leaders, optimizing sales and profitability, and executing key initiatives aligned with FCL’s HABS Vision and Strategy. From contractor center design to succession planning, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of retail lumber.

What you’ll do:

  • Achieve budgeted sales targets and improve profitability for assigned Local Co-ops through strategic planning and coaching.
  • Partner with Local Co-op Senior Leaders to identify growth opportunities, develop actionable sales plans, and support execution.
  • Ensure effective participation in Coordinated events (e.g., Zone training, HABS Buy Mart) and align efforts with HABS OA colleagues.
  • Guide Local Co-ops through renovations, expansions, and new store setups, including yard planning, product placement, and marketing.
  • Identify future leaders within Local Co-ops and support HR in coordinating training and long-term succession strategies.

Who you’ll work with:
You will work closely with Local Co-op Management to encourage full support and execution of FCL strategic initiatives and programs. You will also work with fellow Zone HABS OAs and Zone Operations leadership to support and help implement overall location HABS operational, sales and profitability objectives. You will report into the Manager, HABS LBM Sales. This team strives to cultivate a culture of collaboration, expertise, and results.

Why it matters:
Our team helps to build Western Canadian communities by providing leadership to Co-op Home Centres that benefits local consumers and contractors.

Who you are:
You are looking for a career in Sales & Marketing and:

  • Have 6-9 years of progressively responsible experience in retail management with direct exposure to lumber and building materials industry.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Commerce, or Marketing (a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered).

What we offer:

  • Competitive salaries, short-term incentives, a comprehensive benefits package, and an employer-contributed pension plan.
  • Long-term car rental that is fully covered by us to accommodate the expected travel.
  • Encouragement to take advantage of learning opportunities to grow and develop as a Team Member.
  • As a co-operative, we do business differently. We believe in working together to serve Western Canadians, delivering profits back to our communities and investing in sustainable growth. To learn more about who we are and what we offer, visit www.fcl.crs.

We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations throughout the recruitment process to ensure an enjoyable candidate experience. If you require an accommodation during the recruitment process, we invite you to submit your requests to us via [email protected]. All information received will be kept confidential.

If this opportunity speaks to you, we invite you to apply by November 10, 2026.

We thank all candidates for their interest, however only those selected to continue in the recruitment process will be contacted.

As this position is considered a position of trust and safety sensitive, you may be required to complete drug and alcohol test, drivers abstract, and a criminal record check in accordance with FCL policies.

FCL embraces diversity and inclusion. We’re working to create a workforce that is as diverse as the communities we serve and an environment where every team member brings their whole self to work. We believe all candidates should feel at home with us and be given the opportunity to fully participate during the recruitment process.
