Job description

Your new company

Join a growing and well-established provider of electrical engineering, manufacturing, automation, and power distribution solutions serving industrial clients across North America. Their team delivers end-to-end support across engineering, manufacturing, field services, automation, electrical safety, and commissioning for customers in mining, utilities, manufacturing, and other heavy industrial sectors. Known for their commitment to quality, safety, and technical excellence, they offer employees the opportunity to work on complex projects for some of the industry's most recognized organizations while developing their careers alongside an experienced and collaborative engineering team.

Your new role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership in the design and development of medium-voltage electrical distribution systems used in demanding industrial and underground mining environments. This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in electrical power distribution, protection systems, and equipment integration, particularly within manufacturing, electrical equipment, e-house, power distribution, or mining-related industries.

The successful candidate will lead the engineering design of medium-voltage power-distribution solutions ranging from approximately 4 kV to 25 kV, ensuring compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and underground mining regulations. In addition to serving as a key technical expert, this individual will provide mentorship and guidance to junior and intermediate engineers while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of medium-voltage electrical distribution systems ranging from approximately 4 kV to 25 kV.

  • Design power-distribution equipment and electrical systems for industrial and underground mining applications.

  • Develop and review protection, relay, and control system designs to ensure safe and reliable operation.

  • Design and integrate electrical equipment within mobile power-distribution skids, sleds, or similar packaged power solutions.

  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable electrical codes, industry standards, safety requirements, and underground mining regulations.

  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering drawings, schematics, technical specifications, and supporting documentation.

  • Provide technical leadership and engineering guidance throughout project execution, from concept through manufacturing and implementation.

  • Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers through technical coaching, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, engineering, project management, and operations to deliver practical and cost-effective solutions.

  • Troubleshoot complex electrical design challenges and provide innovative engineering solutions.

  • Evaluate equipment selections and ensure proper integration of electrical components and systems.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering processes, product design, quality, and safety.

  • Contribute to technical decision-making and serve as a subject-matter expert within the engineering group.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment while promoting engineering best practices and professional development.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • P. Eng. registered with APEGS, or licensed in another province and able to transfer

  • 8+ years of progressive Electrical Engineering experience in industrial, manufacturing, mining, or other heavy industrial environments.

  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution and medium-voltage systems (4 kV through 15 kV and up to 25 kV.)

  • Experience designing distribution equipment, protection and relay systems, equipment fitted within mobile power-distribution sleds, safety provisions, and compliance with regulations for underground-mine environments.

  • Proven experience leading electrical engineering and capital projects from concept through commissioning.

  • Strong expertise in industrial power distribution systems, electrical infrastructure, and manufacturing facility support.

  • Extensive experience with medium-voltage power systems, including substation design, implementation, upgrades, and commissioning.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of power system analysis, including short-circuit studies, protection coordination, load flow analysis, and arc flash assessments.

  • Experience with protective relaying, switchgear, transformers, electrical equipment specification, and industrial power system design.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and operational issues within active manufacturing or industrial facilities.

  • Experience supporting and optimizing manufacturing operations through continuous improvement and root cause analysis initiatives.

  • Exposure to automation, control systems, and systems integration projects within industrial environments.

  • Strong understanding of electrical safety programs, standards, codes, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management capabilities, with the ability to communicate effectively across engineering, operations, maintenance, and executive teams.

  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to serve as a subject-matter expert for power systems, electrical infrastructure, and manufacturing operations.

  • Previous technical leadership or senior engineering experience within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
