About PolarGrid
PolarGrid is an early-stage Canadian company that runs managed AI inference. Customers bring their own models, and we run them as fast, reliable production endpoints.
The role
You will own the console, the product customers use to deploy, monitor and pay for their models. You will own it end to end, from the interface to the APIs and data behind it, and you will run it in production.
This is a hands-on staff role on a small team. Most of your time goes to building. You will also set the direction for how customers experience PolarGrid. You will work closely with the infrastructure team so the product reflects what is really happening, and you will help hire and grow the engineers who join you.
Our customers are ML and infrastructure engineers. They expect accurate numbers, clear errors and a product that respects their time.
The work
You will build how customers get started, deploy and update models, track usage and cost, and understand what their models are doing. The hard part is that much of this is slow and can fail partway. Operations run for minutes, and the product has to show their real state, clearly, while it changes.
What you bring
• You have owned a product for technical users end to end, from interface to production, including being on call for it.
• You have set technical direction beyond your own code, and other engineers built on it.
• You have made other engineers better through review, design and mentoring.
• Deep experience building web front ends with a typed language, and comfort building backends on a relational database.
• You design for long-running work and failure: live status, retries and partial results.
• Product judgement. You talk to customers, cut scope, and write down a plan before building it.
• You write clearly.
• You use AI tools well and check their work.
