Who We Are
Mission: At Clever Digital Marketing, we are on a mission to empower large-scale home improvement companies by fueling their top-line revenue through innovative digital marketing strategies. By bridging the gap in the industry for a highly profitable digital lead vendor, we've created a unique space where growth isn't just supported — it's catalyzed.
Product: Clever Digital Marketing delivers outcome-driven paid advertising and strategic advising solutions. We don't focus on clicks and impressions — we focus on net sales. Our customized, data-driven strategies are tailored to each client's unique needs, ensuring measurable impact and scalable profitability across Google, Meta, and Microsoft ad platforms.
Scale: Recognized by the Globe and Mail as the #1 Fastest-Growing Company in the Marketing & Advertising category and #42 across all of Canada, we are the growth engine behind some of North America's most ambitious home improvement brands — companies on track to generate over $500 million in combined revenue in 2026. With a team of 100+ across North America, $74M in digital ad spend managed, and 400,000+ leads generated, we've built something rare: a system where scale isn't luck. It's engineering.
Impact: As trusted subject matter experts in the home improvement space, we are redefining what it means to deliver value. Our commitment to authenticity, collaboration, and continuous improvement ensures we remain a powerhouse of growth and measurable results for every client we serve. We don't do lead generation — we do revenue generation.
The Honest Truth About This Role
Our Data & Technology group has outgrown informal coordination. The group spans the Data Integrations & Engineering teams (our GCP-native Data Platform 2.0 and Google/Meta/Bing ad platform integrations), IT Security, and Compliance — including our SOC 2 readiness program and IT Security Plan. These workstreams compete for the same small set of technical hands, and today there is no dedicated delivery owner. Priorities collide, dependencies surface late, and important-but-not-urgent security and compliance work slips behind feature delivery.
You'll fix that. You won't inherit clean systems — you'll build them. So let's be direct about who we're looking for: a superb communicator & hands-on builder who has run technical programs before, not someone who needs a playbook handed to them.
One boundary to be clear about up front: you own the how, you facilitate the what. Delivery process, tracking, cadences, and risk management are yours to design and drive. What gets prioritized — roadmap and resourcing calls — you frame clearly for the leaders who decide. If you need roadmap authority to feel effective, this isn't your role. If making complex decisions easier and business-critical delivery more predictable is what energizes you, keep reading.
Key Responsibilities
What You'll Do
Own Portfolio Visibility and Delivery
- Build and maintain a single source of truth for status, dependencies, risks, and resourcing across data platform, integrations, IT security, and compliance workstreams
- Run portfolio-level planning: sequence work across projects, surface conflicts before they become fire drills, and keep leadership informed without meetings-as-status-reports
- Flag slippage, resourcing conflicts, and scope creep early — with options attached, not just alarms
Drive Security and Compliance Programs
- Own delivery of SOC 2 readiness: evidence collection, control implementation tasks, access reviews, vendor risk assessments, policy work, and audit milestones — coordinated with internal subject matter experts, our compliance partners, and auditors
- Drive execution of the IT Security Plan: turn it into sequenced, owned, tracked work, and keep it moving alongside feature delivery competing for the same engineers
- Operate with a least-privilege mindset: you'll touch access-adjacent process (access reviews, onboarding/offboarding checklists, vendor intake) and are expected to flag scope-of-access questions rather than route around them
Run Right-Sized Agile Process
- Adapt process to team size — we’re a small, senior unit, not a 200-person scaled-agile org
- Own delivery cadence for the technical team — planning, standups, retros, backlog hygiene — process that serves delivery, not ceremony for its own sake
- Protect the team's focus: manage intake so mid-sprint asks get triaged, not silently absorbed
- Architect how the technical portfolio runs in Asana: templates, custom fields, dependencies, and portfolio views that give leadership visibility without asking
Facilitate Prioritization and Intake
- Turn ad hoc requests from leadership, client services, and vendors into scoped, sequenced backlog items with effort, dependencies, and tradeoffs made explicit
- Prepare prioritization decisions for the VP and leadership: frame the options, quantify cost-of-delay, and drive to a decision — the call itself sits with the decision-makers
- Translate stakeholder needs into actionable requirements and specs the engineering team can build against
Coordinate Cross-Functional and External Work
- Align internal stakeholders (client services, leadership, operations) and external parties (vendors, contractors, client-side technical contacts) on scope, timelines, and dependencies
- Drive vendor- and contractor-delivered workstreams to completion: clear deliverables, tracked commitments, escalation before deadlines break
- Diagnose root causes behind missed deadlines — capacity, prioritization, unclear scope, or workflow design — and fix the system, not the symptom
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
What We Are Looking For
- 3+ years of program or project management for technical teams (data, software, platform, or IT/security work) with real delivery accountability — you've owned outcomes, not just tracked tickets
- Exposure to security or compliance work (audits, access reviews, policy rollouts) — and you treat it as real delivery, not overhead
- You've built delivery systems from scratch — walked into a team with no structure and created the workflows, tooling, and habits that made it run
- Working fluency in agile practices — enough to run the process well and enough judgment to know when to bend it
- Technical literacy sufficient to be credible with engineers: you understand what a data pipeline is, why a schema change carries risk, what "blocked on API access" means, and why an access request's scope matters — and you're honest about what you don't know
- Strong Asana skills at the architecture level, not just the user level
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority — driving delivery across people and vendors who don't report to you
- Exceptional written communication: status reporting, requirements, and decision framing are core deliverables of this role, not overhead
Who You Are
- Extreme Ownership — you take responsibility for whether work ships, not just whether the board is updated
- A builder, hands-on and high-output — you build the system, roll it out, and iterate; you don't architect from 30,000 feet and delegate the details
- A facilitator, not a bottleneck — you make decisions easier for decision-makers and work easier for builders
- Direct and candid — you deliver honest status even when it's unwelcome, and push back on vague asks
- Kaizen-driven — messy starting points energize you, and you leave every process better than you found it
Nice to Haves
- Experience driving a security or compliance program (SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar), working with compliance automation platforms (e.g., Vanta, Drata), or alongside an external audit/compliance partner
- Exposure to cloud data platforms (GCP, BigQuery) or modern data engineering workflows
- Agency or multi-client environment experience
- Product management exposure: PRDs, discovery, acceptance criteria
- Formal certifications (PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, CISA, Security+) — useful signal, not required
What You Will Not Do
- Own roadmap or prioritization authority — you design and run the delivery system; what gets prioritized within it is facilitated by you and decided by leadership
- Manage people — this is an individual contributor role with broad influence
- Deliver hands-on engineering work — you'll be close to the technical work, but you won't write production code or SQL
- Run client-facing account or campaign management
What Success Looks Like
- At 30 days: You've taken over delivery tracking for the Technology portfolio. You know the state of every active workstream, where SOC 2 readiness and the IT Security Plan actually stand, and what you'll fix first.
- At 60 days: The technical team's delivery cadence is running. SOC 2 and IT Security Plan work is sequenced, owned, and tracked against target dates. Intake has a single front door.
- At 90 days: Leadership can see portfolio status without asking. Security and compliance milestones are landing on schedule rather than slipping behind feature work. You present a view of what comes next — process, tooling, and risks.
