Youth Development Woker

Family Resource Network (FRN) - Okotoks

Permanent Full-time (40 hours/week)

McMan Calgary

Internal/External

Meaningful work. Lasting impact.

At McMan Calgary & Area, connection is at the centre of everything we do. Each year, we support more than 5,000 children, youth, adults and families facing complex challenges, including mental health concerns, addiction, homelessness, poverty and disability. We believe every person has deep and lasting worth, and we see people for who they are, not for what they're facing.

Our work supports people to rebuild and strengthen connections to self, peers, family, community, culture and the land. Belonging, identity and wellbeing grow through relationships because people need people. Professional support is there for a season or a reason, not a lifetime. We create the conditions; people build the lives they want for themselves.

The Role

McMan’s Family Resource Network is looking for an energetic and experienced Youth Development Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will provide strengths-based, individualized support to youth and young adults ages 12–24, empowering them to develop the skills, relationships, confidence, and resources needed to achieve their goals, increase their independence, and build a positive future. Services are delivered within the HUB, schools, and community, in collaboration with youth, caregivers, school staff, and community partners, as appropriate.

This position will be based out of the Family Resource Network in Okotoks and does require some evening work (~2-3 evenings per week), and occasional weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with youth and families to identify needs, establish goals, and develop individualized support plans.
  • Provide advocacy, referrals, and connections to appropriate community resources and supports.
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with youth and young adults.
  • Support youth in developing life skills, confidence, independence, and positive relationships.
  • Provide strengths-based support and assist youth in navigating challenges and achieving their goals.
  • Apply crisis management skills and respond appropriately to emerging needs.
  • Work independently in the community while collaborating with caregivers, school staff, and community partners, as appropriate.
  • Upholding core values and service standards ensuring daily work, decisions and interactions reflect McMan’s five core values—Commitment, Trust, Empathy, Respect and Genuineness—and align with our service delivery framework.

Ideal Candidate

  • Diploma or degree in Human Services or a related discipline, with at least 3 years of direct work experience
  • Direct experience working with youth from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Experience working with at risk youth with complex needs (mental health concerns, housing instability, truancy, etc.)
  • Strong working knowledge of child/youth development
  • Insight and understanding related to trauma, grief, and loss
  • Understanding and ability to work with numerous social service systems, community, and professional resources
  • Solid written, organizational, and case management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of the Natural Supports Framework would be an asset
  • Strong written, organizational, interpersonal, and case management skills
  • Flexible availability, including some evenings and weekends, to meet programming needs
  • Participate in the organization's on-call rotation

Role Requirements (required prior to start)

  • Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within 6 months of date of hire)
  • Child Intervention Record Check (dated within 6 months of date of hire)
