Operating as an individual contributor at the Senior Manager level, you will execute a high-impact global audit mandate covering operations across North America and Asia. The role centers on high-visibility enterprise group functions, with dedicated exposure to Third-Party Risk Management, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Human Resources. Your time will be split between leading non-financial audit engagements (approximately 70%) and overseeing SOX review activities for HR and payroll controls (approximately 30%). Rather than performing day-to-day testing directly, you will focus on high-level oversight: scoping risk-based audit strategies, reviewing fieldwork performed by junior audit staff, assessing finding significance, and delivering clear, impactful reporting to senior leadership.
Position Title: Senior Manager – Internal Audit & Advisory Services
Employment Type: 12-Month Contract
Location: Hybrid (Toronto / Waterloo, ON)
Advantages
•High-Impact Global Mandate: Lead and deliver audits across diverse regions (US, Canada, Asia) covering cutting-edge, high-priority operational domains including AI governance, Third-Party Risk Management, and global HR functions.
•Technological Innovation: Work in a forward-thinking environment that integrates centralized GRC tools, modern data analytics, and generative AI capabilities directly into the audit lifecycle.
•Senior-Level Scope: Function as a strategic lead who shapes audit scope, reviews fieldwork, mentors staff, and interfaces directly with senior business leaders rather than executing basic testing.
•Workplace Flexibility: Benefit from a collaborative hybrid work model based out of modern office hubs in Toronto or Waterloo.
•Streamlined Hiring Process: Fast-tracked 2-day resume review timeline with an efficient 1-to-2 round virtual interview process.
Responsibilities
•Audit Execution & Strategy (70%):
oLead end-to-end audit and advisory projects in alignment with department standards, managing project milestones, scopes, and target delivery dates.
oDevelop concise, risk-based audit strategies tailored to specific business units, with an emphasis on Third-Party Risk Management, AI applications, and HR processes.
oReview fieldwork and test procedures completed by junior team members to ensure documentation standards and test objectives are rigorously met.
oApply sound professional judgment to evaluate control deficiencies, draft audit issues, and formulate practical, value-added recommendations.
oPrepare clear, concise, and structured audit reports delivered to senior management and audit committee stakeholders.
oActively track, follow up, and lead remediation testing on outstanding audit issues with business management.
oLeverage data analytics and automation tools to enhance audit quality, depth, and efficiency.
•SOX Oversight & Review (30%):
oLead SOX process evaluations and support SOX/MAR planning initiatives.
oProvide direct review and oversight during the walkthrough and testing phases for HR and payroll internal controls.
oCoordinate with business owners to manage submission follow-ups and ensure timely resolution of control gaps.
•People Leadership & Stakeholder Management:
oCoach, mentor, and guide audit staff assisting on project workstreams.
oEstablish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with cross-functional leadership across North America and Asia.
Qualifications
Required:
•Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, external audit (Big Four or mid-sized accounting firms), risk management, or advisory/consulting.
•Core Audit Skills: Strong background in risk assessment, internal controls evaluation, identifying control deficiencies, reviewing team fieldwork, and audit report writing.
•Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
•Communication & Influence: Proven track record of presenting complex audit findings clearly and building productive relationships with senior stakeholders across diverse business lines and cultures.
•Project Management: Demonstrated ability to drive multiple audit deliverables concurrently while meeting defined deadlines.
Preferred:
•Domain Expertise: Prior audit experience in Third-Party Risk Management / vendor risk (highest priority) and/or Artificial Intelligence governance.
•Certifications: Professional accounting or auditing designation (CPA, CA, CIA, or CISA).
•SOX Experience: Working familiarity with SOX/MAR compliance frameworks, specifically surrounding HR and payroll control environments.
•Technical Acumen: Exposure to data analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI), automated GRC systems, or generative AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot).
•Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with financial services risk governance frameworks and regulatory guidelines (such as OSFI) is an asset, though strong audit fundamentals from any industry background will be considered.
Summary
This Senior Manager role is a critical 12-month contract engagement for an accomplished audit professional seeking strategic exposure to high-priority enterprise risk areas. Operating within client's Audit and Advisory Services practice, you will oversee complex audit engagements across Third-Party Risk, AI, and HR while driving SOX review activities across a global operational footprint. If you bring strong foundational audit review capabilities, sharp analytical acumen, and a collaborative mindset, apply today for immediate consideration through our dedicated recruitment team.
