12-Month Maternity Leave Contract, with Possibility of Extension
About the Opportunity
Ruth & Naomi’s Mission has been serving the Chilliwack community for over 20 years. What began with handing out sandwiches to people experiencing homelessness has grown into a multi-site organization with over 100 staff, serving more than 500 meals daily, providing shelter for over 200 people each night, and supporting individuals through residential recovery programs.
We are seeking a skilled, proactive, and detail-oriented Finance Coordinator to join our Finance team on a full-time maternity leave contract anticipated to be approximately 12 months, with the possibility of extension. The end date will depend on the incumbent’s return from leave.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is responsible for full-cycle accounts payable, housing rent receivables, and accurate grant and project accounting. You will work directly with funding agreements to ensure expenses are allocated correctly, financial records are maintained accurately, and reporting requirements and deadlines are met.
This is an opportunity for a critical thinker who takes ownership, understands the importance of strong financial controls, and can translate funding agreements into accurate, reliable financial reporting. If you enjoy solving problems, improving processes, and supporting a mission-driven organization, we would love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities

- Manage full-cycle accounts payable, including invoice entry, expense coding, approval tracking, vendor records, payment preparation, and statement reconciliations.
- Oversee rent receivables for housing programs, including tracking collections, resolving discrepancies, and coordinating with BC Housing and program leadership.
- Respond to vendor inquiries and ensure accounts are accurate and up to date.
Grant & Project Accounting
- Review and interpret funding agreements, including eligible expenses, budgets, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
- Set up and maintain general ledger accounts, classes, and projects in QuickBooks Online.
- Ensure expenses are accurately allocated to the appropriate grants and projects, making adjustments and reclassifications as required.
- Prepare supporting schedules and allocations for grant and project reporting.
- Track funder deliverables and deadlines, identifying potential risks and communicating them proactively.
- Support the financial tracking and reporting of fundraising events.
Reconciliations & Month-End Support
- Complete general ledger reconciliations, including accruals, prepaids, and clearing accounts.
- Assist with monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Reconcile rent receivables to the general ledger and support an accurate, timely month-end close.
Team Collaboration & Process Improvement
- Coordinate day-to-day finance activities and support the Finance team with accounting and allocation questions.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and help document procedures.
- Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all financial, personnel, and organizational information.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounts payable and receivables.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online, including classes and projects.
- Strong Excel skills and a solid understanding of accounting principles and internal controls.
- Experience in nonprofit accounting, grant management, and project reporting is strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret funding agreements and apply their requirements to expense allocation and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Strong technology skills, including comfort using AI tools to support day-to-day work.
- A high degree of discretion, integrity, and confidentiality.
Who You Are
You are proactive, organized, and accountable. You take ownership of your work, follow through on commitments, and look beyond the immediate task to understand the bigger picture. You are comfortable working independently while collaborating with a team, asking thoughtful questions, and identifying opportunities to make processes better.
You are committed to continuous learning and demonstrate values consistent with the mission of Ruth & Naomi’s Mission.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary of $70,000–$78,500, based on education and experience.
- Employer-paid extended health benefits following successful completion of the probationary period.
- RRSP matching program following successful completion of the probationary period.
