Job description

CPA Ontario is not like other organizations
We operate at a rare intersection, both regulator and membership body, responsible for upholding the integrity of the CPA designation while supporting more than 105,000 members and 19,000 students across the province. Our work sits between business and the public interest, between the evolving demands of industry and the standards that make trust possible.

Careers built here tend to look different because the work itself is different. You are not simply contributing to an organization. You are helping shape a profession that touches nearly every sector of the economy at a moment when expectations, technology, and the nature of work are all being rewritten.

About This Opportunity:
CPA Ontario is currently in search of a Human Resources Specialist to coordinate HR operations and support employees throughout the employee lifecycle. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, you will lead a welcoming onboarding experience and help employees feel informed, supported and set up for success from day one.

You will also contribute to engagement, wellness, recognition and health and safety initiatives, helping build a positive, inclusive and high-performing workplace.

To Be Successful You Need:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field, with at least two years of Human Resources experience in an HR Specialist or Generalist role. A CHRP designation is considered an asset.
  • Experience processing transactions in an HRIS and administering HR payroll activities, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Experience with ADP Payroll and Hi Bob HRIS is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work independently, prioritize, multitask and problem-solve while maintaining keen attention to detail.
  • A proactive, results-oriented approach, with the ability to identify and contribute to process improvements, plan and execute employee events, and develop creative engagement initiatives.
  • Experience handling challenging and sensitive employee situations, working in health and safety or serving on a Joint Health and Safety Committee is considered an asset.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Coordinate onboarding and offboarding, including system access, documentation, orientation, exit logistics and exit interviews for employees who are not people leaders. Administer employee leave and workplace accommodation programs, including parental leave and short- and long-term disability, partnering with employees, the business and Manulife from initiation through return to work.
  • Support payroll administration, respond to payroll inquiries and maintain accurate payroll records. Administer the HRIS and process employee lifecycle transactions, including new hires, transfers, promotions, compensation changes, leaves and terminations. Partner with the HR Coordinator on audits, resolve discrepancies and improve HR workflows while maintaining data accuracy, integrity and confidentiality.
  • Own the planning and delivery of employee engagement and well-being programs, including wellness and mental health initiatives, benefits and pension education, RBC Race for the Kids and Take Our Kids to Work Day. Coordinate communications and event logistics, collaborate with business units, and support employee recognition programs and the Employee Recognition Strategy.
  • Serve as a trusted, confidential resource for employees on HR questions, concerns and workplace matters. Address sensitive issues with professionalism, tact, diplomacy and sound judgment, escalating when appropriate, and support the Manager and Director, Human Resources in delivering HR programs, initiatives and special projects.
  • Own and maintain the health and safety program, policies, procedures and documentation to support regulatory compliance. Co-chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), coordinate meetings and inspections, and lead training, incident reporting, workplace investigations and corrective action tracking.

Why Join CPA Ontario?

  • We support your well-being through industry-leading benefits, mental health resources, savings programs, and a sustainable approach to how work gets done.
  • We are committed to inclusion as a core part of how we operate, not as an afterthought.
  • We have a hybrid working environment, with three days a week on-site, complemented by 2 days of work-from-home time. We are intentional about that: the work we do benefits from being together. We want those days you work from home to be comfortable and offer a one-time bonus towards a home office when you start.
  • We invest in your growth through learning and professional development opportunities, stretch projects, secondments, and genuine paths for career progression.
  • We move quickly. The pace reflects the profession we serve; it can be demanding, but the work matters, and the team around you is invested in the same outcomes you have.
