Job description

Human Resources Specialist

Location: Charlottetown, PEI

At Provincial Credit Union, we’re more than a financial institution – we’re a people-first, purpose-driven organization, proudly recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2026. We believe great HR is about more than policies and processes, it’s about building strong relationships, helping leaders succeed, and creating an employee experience where people feel supported, valued and able to do their best work.

We’re looking for an experienced Human Resources Specialist to join our HR team. This is an opportunity for an HR professional who enjoys a broad range of HR responsibilities, values working closely with leaders and is comfortable taking ownership of their work. While recruitment and talent acquisition will be a key focus, this role extends well beyond hiring. You’ll work directly with leaders to navigate employee relations and performance, provide HR advice, support the application of policies and contribute to programs and initiatives that shape the employee experience across PCU.

What You’ll Do:

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition

  • Lead end-to-end recruitment for a variety of positions, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, reference checks and offers.
  • Partner with hiring leaders and provide guidance on recruitment, interviewing and candidate selection.
  • Build and maintain internal and external talent pipelines.
  • Develop engaging job postings and identify opportunities to improve the candidate experience.

Employee Relations & Performance

  • Provide HR advice and recommendations to leaders on employee relations, performance, attendance and workplace concerns.
  • Guide leaders through performance management processes, including expectations, documentation and follow-up.
  • Interpret and apply HR policies and employment legislation, using sound judgment to address situations that may require a thoughtful or individualized approach.
  • Support consistent, fair, and practical approaches to employee relations across the organization.

HR Programs & Initiatives

  • Assist with the development, review and communication of HR policies, programs and resources.
  • Monitor employment legislation and HR best practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives that support the employee experience and business needs.

What You Bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, Education or a related field.
  • Minimum four years of progressive HR experience, with a strong background in recruitment and talent acquisition.
  • The ability to assess situations, interpret policies and legislation, and provide practical recommendations.
  • Experience providing HR guidance to leaders, particularly in employee relations and performance management.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to build credibility and trust with leaders and employees.
  • Excellent organization, time management and attention to detail.
  • Sound discretion and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and experience with HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with HR legislation, trends and best practices.
  • Ability to travel to PCU’s 10 branches across PEI, as needed.

Why You’ll Love It Here:

We believe our employees deserve the same outstanding care we give our members. That’s why we offer:

  • A People-First Culture: Join a supportive team that values collaboration, positivity, and community impact.
  • Competitive Pay & Bonus Program: Market-aligned salary plus the opportunity for annual bonuses.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Health and dental coverage, sick time, and a Defined Contribution Pension Plan & Group Retirement Savings Plan with up to 9% employer contribution.
  • Work-Life Balance: Three weeks’ vacation, plus four personal days, and two volunteer days each year.
  • Career Growth: Tuition reimbursement, training opportunities, and career progression pathways.
  • Extra Perks: Annual fitness and clothing allowance, reduced employee loan and mortgage rates, and no service fees on banking transactions.
  • Salary Range: $68,289 – $80,340.

Additional Information

Bondability Requirement: Candidates must be bondable under a fidelity bond policy (includes a criminal and credit check).

Closing Date: November 14th, 2026.
