HR Administrator - One-year term

Who We Are

Avenir Energy Ltd. is one of Canada’s largest and fastest-growing propane distribution companies, powered by more than 400 team members nationwide. We’re proud to be a safety-first, customer-focused organization—and we bring energy, teamwork and a can-do attitude to everything we do.

Our people are at the heart of our success. You’ll join a collaborative, fast-moving team where ideas are welcomed, colleagues support one another and every role has the opportunity to make a real impact.

Why Join Avenir Energy?

Bring your skills, ideas and enthusiasm—we’ll make sure you have plenty to look forward to:

  • Comprehensive Benefits – Health, dental, paramedical and life insurance.

  • Work-Life Balance – Competitive vacation, floater days, and flexible time-off programs.

  • Performance Incentives – Annual rewards recognizing individual and company achievements.

  • Stability & Growth – Grow with a thriving organization while building hands-on experience across a wide range of HR activities.

The Role

Ready to put your organizational skills to work and make a difference every day? Avenir Energy is looking for an HR Administrator to join our Human Resources team on a one-year term, supporting operations across Canada. You’ll jump into a hands-on role with exposure to payroll, recruitment, onboarding, benefits, employee records, reporting and general HR operations.

If you love bringing order to busy days, keeping details on track and helping people get what they need, you’ll feel right at home here. You’ll partner with HR colleagues, employees and managers across the organization—and help keep our people processes running smoothly, accurately and on time.

Here’s where you’ll make an impact:

  • Monitor the HR inbox, respond to routine inquiries and direct requests to the appropriate HR team member.

  • Prepare, organize, file, upload and maintain employee documentation and electronic HR records.

  • Support payroll administration by collecting approved changes, maintaining supporting documentation and helping ensure information is complete and ready for processing.

  • Coordinate onboarding activities, including sending forms and information to new hires, tracking completion and following up on outstanding requirements.

  • Provide recruitment administration support, including coordinating interviews, communicating with candidates and managers, and assisting with recruitment documentation.

  • Support benefits administration by providing forms and information, tracking outstanding items and helping coordinate employee changes.

  • Prepare recurring employee lists, reports and other HR information for review.

  • Maintain HR trackers and monitor important dates such as probationary periods, temporary assignments, renewals, acknowledgements and outstanding employee documentation.

  • Assist with letters, forms, spreadsheets, employee communications and other day-to-day HR documentation.

  • Support HR projects by coordinating activities, maintaining trackers, scheduling meetings and distributing materials.

  • Assist with general employee data updates and help ensure HR information remains accurate and current.

  • Provide general administrative and coordination support to the HR team as priorities change.

What You Bring

You don’t need to know everything on day one. We’re looking for a dependable, organized and positive team player who enjoys learning, helping others and adapting when priorities shift.

  • Previous experience in administration, coordination, human resources, payroll, recruitment, benefits or a related environment is an asset.

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, Office Administration or a related field is an asset, but equivalent experience will also be considered.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines and follow-ups.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate recordkeeping and data entry.

  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Word and Excel.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Comfortable learning new systems and administrative processes.

  • Able to handle confidential and sensitive employee information appropriately.

  • A practical, service-oriented approach when working with employees, managers and other members of the HR team.

  • Ability to work independently while knowing when an issue should be escalated.

  • Previous experience with an HRIS, payroll system or applicant tracking system is an asset.

This is an in office position at our Dartmouth office. Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm with additional hours as needed.

Avenir Energy is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible hiring process. Accommodations are available upon request throughout all stages of recruitment.

By applying, you acknowledge that Avenir Energy may use third-party systems or recruiting agencies that utilize Artificial Intelligence in candidate screening and assessment.
